Found this site . Very interesting . From the photos of June 27,1957 Hurricane Audrey . You can see Rita was a more distructive Storm.

Bethany, Yes I miss it so very much. We lost everything and because it was our beach house and we didn't live there We got no help what so ever. Plus 5 feet of sand was washed off our property. So unless nature takes it corse and some how sand is built back up in our area. We won't be able to do anything with our property. This don't mean we'll never go back, oh no not at all. We are going back. We will only be going back with our camper and parking farther away from our place. Or renting a place in Hackberry and going to our place with a tent. Some have begun to rebuild So thats great news. But many are so discuraged because of building codes. They just can't aford it. To build back under the codes.A lot are like us who have one or two or three lots. The codes require everyone to have a min, of 4 lots. to Build back and get even a septic tank and water and lights. This makes it really hard for people who want to come home and have limited funds. Glad to hear from you and as for Katrina. Thats all you hear about still. Rita and her victems will probably always be the Forgoten storm and forgoten victems. See what it is here. People of Cameron parish are smart people we got out when we were told to get out. So none of us died in the storm. Were as Katrina victems were told get out and decided to stay . There falt no one elses. But now all attenshion turns to the Katrina storm and victems. Probably always will. But I thank God Southwest Louisiana were heck lot smarter. Had way more common sense. True we lost it all. But we all have our lives and lives of our family and friends still with us.

Bethany, Maybe you did know me. We had our beach house on the west end just past The tides in RV park . We were located in the small group of camps right across from the electrical plant thingy. our beach house was called ( Marks Summer Breeze ). We stayed there 99.9 % the time winter and summer. We miss it dearly. We'll probably never rebuild we just can't aford it. Plus we only own 2 lots and our neighbors are not talking of selling and neither are we. So guess lots will sit there empty indefently. My name , well...LOL Guess its safe to say now that Hurricane Rita has made history to retire the last distructive hurricane to hit Cameron parish. LOL My name is Audrey.
