Where do you start.
We arrived early this morning and had to walk in from the main highway, National Guard bypassed Oliver St and it was unpassable. Many camps on the water front are destroyed, one next to Dore's was gone completlely. Dore's beautiful home is filled with 3 feet of marsh cane. Benkensteins camp is gutted as is the camps on both sides. Many trees are on camps,if you did not know the road you could not find Oliver St due to the 3 feet of marsh cane on it, The public wharf parking lot is covered by 3 feet of marsh cane and someones boat. The wharfs are for the most part gone except for Dore's and Theiland, both new. The higher you are the better you fared, our camp the Daigle camp sits at the high point on the ridge and has little damage, the hurricane fence saved our camp by catching the 4 feet of debris and holding it against the structure. I would HAVE NEVER IMAGINED WE HAD THAT MANY NUTRIAS. There are huge tanks both chemical and diesel in our yard.
The water got into our camp about 8" and left a mess, but only a light film of mud. The overall structure is in tact and our two story garage apartment only needs washing of the garage and electricity. Going towards the dead end was not possible as we had to get out by 10:00 am. We did not venture further.
The overall quiet and peacefulness of the area has returned and all that is needed is lots of hard work and we will all be back to enjoy this small slice of heaven we have been so fortunate to share growing up. The one thing I regret is we grew up at this camp and don't know many neighbors personally, hopefully this will change in the future as we work to help each other rebuild. Good luck to all and God's speed.
Pictures will be posted or email me and I will shoot you a set.If anyone wants to call my cell is 337-257-9799
thanks dg
