We just got off of the phone with fema for about the 50th time. We were told that the deadline for expedited assistance was last Friday. If you did not receive the money by then it was too late. He said we would have to appeal. We said that we did appeal numerous times. What do we do now???? This is so wrong!!!

I did apply in Jennings and got my red cross check. Two of my neighbors were denied because they had inspectors come from red cross and told them they did not have enough damage to get help. I never had a inspector at my house just a check. Another neighbor received two checks and so did another friend of mine. No inspection at either sight but got two checks. They did send one check back of course, but how many did not? Also A Fema rep and Cor of engineers guy came to my house to get directions to a address down the road from my house. Well no one has lived in that home for 3-4 years, it is a very bad looking house(before the storm) but the people there must have used that address for fema and red cross help. People like that are to blame for our biggest problem with Fema, that and the fact they act like they don't give a darn about us.They diffently need a overhaul job done to FEMA and Red Cross.

To All,
I just pulled the below info from the fema site. Its under general news releases for October. Disaster Aid Deadline Extended Release Date: October 15, 2005 Release Number: 1603-084 » More Information on Louisiana Hurricane Katrina » More Information on Louisiana Hurricane Rita » En Español BATON ROUGE, La. -- The State of Louisiana and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today the deadline to apply for disaster aid for damages stemming from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is being extended to Jan. 11, 2006. "There are still hundreds of people registering every day," said Vice Admiral Thad Allen, principal federal official and federal coordinating officer for the Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts. "We don't want people with uninsured damages to their homes or businesses to miss the chance to register. That is why we are extending the deadline." Jan. 11, 2006 will now be the last day for residents to apply for state and federal disaster assistance to help them recover from the hurricanes that ravaged the Gulf Coast . Jan. 11, 2006 will also now be the deadline for submitting applications for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). All that is required to apply for disaster assistance is one toll-free phone call to FEMA. That number is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) , or TTY 1-800-462-7585 for people who are speech- or hearing-impaired. Lines are open 24-hours a day, seven days a week until further notice. Hurricane victims may also register online at http://www.fema.gov or they can get assistance in registering at any Disaster Recovery Center (DRC). For those people who suffered damages from Hurricane Katrina , assistance is available to any eligible resident of the 31 designated Louisiana parishes who suffered uninsured or under-insured losses due to the hurricane and flooding. The 31 designated parishes are: Acadia, Ascension, Assumption, Calcasieu, Cameron, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Pointe Coupee, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John, St. Mary, St. Martin, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Vermilion, Washington, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana. For those people who suffered damages from Hurricane Rita , assistance is available to any eligible resident of the 22 designated parishes who suffered uninsured and under-insured losses due to the hurricane and flooding. The 22 designated counties are Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Cameron, Calcasieu, Beauregard, Evangeline , Iberia , Jefferson, Jefferson Davies, Lafayette , Lafourche, Livingston, Plaquemines, Sabine, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Vermilion, Vernon , and West Baton Rouge . After the application deadline, FEMA's toll-free phone line still will be available to assist those who have already registered. Applicants who have questions about the disaster assistance programs or questions about the status of their previously filed applications should continue to use FEMA's toll-free number. To date, nearly 1.4 million residents of the state have applied for aid, and $2.57 billion dollars have been approved. FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003. SBA is the federal government's primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property. SBA helps homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes, and private non-profit organizations fund repairs or rebuilding efforts, and cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property. These disaster loans cover uninsured and uncompensated losses and do not duplicate benefits of other agencies or organizations |

Yes, it is extended for indvidulas, but not for Parish/ State. So if it is not extended tonight at midnight, Cameron and other Parishes will no longer have FEMA fuds to help clean up so residents, can finally start to rebuild their lives.Cameron parish does not have the funds to do they clean up by theirselves. So if the extention is not granted, the clean up will be no exsitant, which means no one will be able to return.
