Hey Suzy...we had one tree on the house and 5 more huge oaks down. one fell over the power lines..a HUGE mess. Yes I registered with FEMA but they want to come and check out the damage first. We went north for 5 days and then came back to hot, muggy, crappy weather..with a thousands of skeeters.. calling FEMA is a joke. I overheard a conversation in Walmart. A woman was telling a friend of her calL to FEMA to register..she says "my house is gone, nothing left" and the FEMA guy says " well did you have any roof damage?" she says "what the %$&^$# did I just tell you? I CAN'T FIND MY *&^%#^% HOUSE, DO YOU THINK I MAY HAVE *&#$%* ROOF DAMAGE??" I thought no wonder FEMA doesn't work too well. Hope you and your family are ok Suzy.. Missed Patrick's funeral..sad for his family at a time like this..

We went through FEMA and got the 2000.00 (direct deposited in our checking) already and the rest is pending. Did you even get that yet? Did you register on-line or over then phone? I am so sorry that you had some damage to your house. We only had minor damage. We lost our 2 huge oak trees right by the house. They both fell away from the house and one fell on the corner of the swimming pool. We were very lucky considering. Let me know if I can help in any way at all. Did ya'll go through the red cross to get assistance too? We got 1565.00 from them. We are still in Houston in a hotel. We did not want to battle the heat or the mosquitos. I know we are whimps! We did not go to Patrick's funeral either. Dad did go and gave them our condolences.

I will agree with your statement. FEMA is also discriminating against farmers! If you own, lease or rent a farm, FEMA will not help you. They say you are a buisness and you need to apply for a small buisness loan, only if and when you are turned down by all finacial and loan processes can you again request help from FEMA, they will then decide if you qualify.

I said FEMA sucks but they're worse now.. Submitted my application online 3 weeks ago..FINALLY got to talk to FEMA today.. they said I wasn't getting the money because I did not evacuate.. I HAD PUT THAT I EVACUATED FOR 5 DAYS...SHE SAID SHE COULDN'T CHANGE THE APP...I WANTED TO REACH OUT AND TOUCH HER BECAUSE SHE WAS SO COLD HEARTED AND RUDE. MAYBE I SHOULD GO POSTAL.....

A friend of mine applied and didn't get the $2k because she had renters insurance. She reapplied and was able to get it. She had applied online first and then reapplied by telephone. Fraud?? I think so. Now, the moral/ethic dilemma is do I report her for that or just leave it alone knowing that everything comes back around?

The good always pays for the bad. We lived in a parking lot in central Louisiana for 6 days. I filled out the online form and the FEMA woman says I hadn't filled out that we had evacuated.I repeadedly told her I had and she rudely says "YOU TOLD ME THAT ALREADY" I said, "WELL FIX IT"...she's says "I CAN'T CHANGE INFO" I told her to go home and sit in her big recliner and think about all the people she "screws over" everyday she works for FEMA...The I read how people who were not even affected by Rita gets money.. now the USA sends 50 million to the earthquake people..which I do feel sorry for but hell, I should be able to get what we deserve. I had 2 trees on my house and no electricity for 2 weeks..

Personally I wouldn't report her. A lot of people lost sh!t in those storms and if anyone can get anything out of FEMA, then more power to them. Tax dollars paid into it and in my opinion she's only taking what she's paid in over time and will continue to pay through taxes.

I have to disagree, because those of us that are attempting to play by the rules are the very ones having difficulty even getting FEMA assistance. This kind of stuff is what makes it difficult for the rest of us.

I agree that FEMA definitly SUCKS!! We have several holes in our roof, lost $400 worth of food, spent $420 on gas for (borrowed) generator and went without electricity and lived outside for 14 days. FEMA turned us down. I know of a lot of people that had NO damage at all and they have received $2000, food stamps and red cross assistance. I have called FEMA over 10 times and get different responses each time. They don't have the correct information and blame me for it, even though I gave it to them over and over. If I could have reached through the phone with one woman, I would have choked her. She said she can't change info and was rude and insensitive. I am not against the people who have received the assistance. My greivance is that FEMA should GIVE IT TO THE ONES IN NEED FIRST!! I have neighbors who have damage to their home and they were denied also. What is going on??? Do they just decide by every fifth caller who gets the assistance or what? FEMA is a joke!!

I'm not going to advocate to people that didn't lose anything take advantage of FEMA, but if you lost your @$$ off in one or both of these storms, and you aren't getting anywhere, then if there are "loop holes", then get the assistance you need if you need it. Self preservation and taking care of your family sure as hell takes precident over anything else in "my opinion". If you had nothing going into the storm then no...don't abuse the system, but if you have been hard working, contributing tax payer and you are getting skrewed over...use the loop holes if there are any.
Be ethical and moral and be hungry.
