I think that Hurricane Rita has really bought out the best in some people and the absolute worst in others. I know someone who is taking advantage of FEMA, RED CROSS, his insurance agency as well as the state. His house had absolutely NO damage except for what everyone else had in SW la and SE Tx, (fallen trees and debris, actually 2 shingles) yet he has managed to reep every benefit offered through these agencies. He also was able to conn his way into getting new appliances for his home stating the hurricane directly effected this, Which on the contrary he was getting a new one weeks prior to the hurricane. I asked him why he wasn't being honest and he said he had paid his taxes and insurance premiums and he thought he was owed it. It makes me extremely upset bc I know a family who has MAJOR DAMAGE and has not heard from FEMA nor any of the agencies listed. What about the people with extreme damage and can't get assistance bc the funds just aren't there through these programs bc of idiots like this. This person also had an accident in a hotel (while evacuating) which was clearly his fault, now he is saying he's going to own that chain. My question, I would like to report this person for fraud but would also like to keep it as anonomous as possible as shamely, he is a member of my husbands family.

This is what Congressman Boustany's office had to say to me about this very issue.."If you have knowledge of fraud involving FEMA funds you should forward information to DHSOIGHOTLINE@dhs.gov or fax DHS OIG at 202-254-4292." They are asking anyone that knows of fraud to please report it.

I know of a person that was visiting family from Japan, they registered and got the evacuation money. I know of several that didn't evacuate, had no damage, and rent, etc. that has already received the evacuation money. My problem is that I haven't lived here long enough to know they names of all these people. So I just let it go.

Report him! Tell them it is anonomous! Do not give your name! But report it! If you don't and you know it you are guilty as well.

Im not guilty as well bc I have every intention on reporting him. I am also in law enforcement so I kind of find it as my responsibility. Thank you for the info and I'll keep you posted.
