We were able to get into Sulphur today by taking back roads through Moss Bluff. There are a lot of trees and power lines down across roads, in yards, and a few through roofs. The power will probably be out for at least a week or so. Many of the side streets are impassable. Trees across the main roads & streets have been chain-sawed and bulldozed enough to let a vehicle through. There is a large pine tree dangling by power lines across Maplewood drive near Cameron State Bank. The new fence along Hazel Street at Forest Hills Estates is completely down, but most of the houses look ok. Flooding seemed to be minimal. Phone service is working in some places, and so is the water, but I do not know if it is safe to drink. Old Spanish trail is passable.
We were able to get down Hazel Street and Vine Street. Large Oaks are down everywhere. Broken like twigs. The new Sam's Club was open today till 5:00. The line was over 100 yards long. I do not know how to get there from Sulphur without going on 210 and taking an exit ramp, unless you go through Moss Bluff. All of the exits on I-10 & 210 are closed off starting at Iowa. The I-10 bridge is still closed, but 210 is open all the way. We saw many convoys of disaster relief vehicles traveling westbound. It is a mess. |

Has anyone been down Post Oak Rd. toward I-10? My parents live near the canal that crosses under Post Oak Rd. and runs behind Timberlane dr.
Does anyone know if the canal flooded? |

Lots of big oaks down on Vine. There was a tree across Vine Street somewhere around the middle block, so we could not see the houses between there and Maplewood. We live on the south block and accessed our house via Hazel. We also drove all the way down Post Oak towards I-10. Woodley Leger's house had a tree on it, and there were lots of trees down. Aside from that, we did not remember seeing significant damage that did not seem repairable. But there were many trees down. The family on the corner of Post Oak and Division was already almost done with their cleanup.

By the way, there was no water on the road on Post Oak, and it did not look as if the canal had flooded. The main cement drainage gully did not overflow.
