OMG this is horrible. I don't have property at Holly Beach, but that was our place to go on vacation every summer. I could not imagine the devastation until I seen these pictures. The memories are all gone. I feel for each one of you guys who lost it all here. I hope that Holly Beach can rebuild and be better than ever. Thanks so much for sharing your pictures with us.
We were blessed. FEMA and SBA no one would help us in anyway shape or form.Because our beach house wasen't our primary resedence even though we lived there more then we did here. But here is a story that there are good people in this world still. My hubbys nephiew came by looked at my photos . then turned to us and said I have a camper I don't use anymore. I will give it to you. With nothing in return. He said I know how much you loved your place. He even had title in hand all signed. So we now have a camper it needs a little work but we'll fix it to our liking. Holly Beach the place we love we are coming home.
That is great news! Glad to hear of such a generious heart. A lady name Sonya was very kind to my sister-in-law and her daughter. She and her daughter brought all kinds of clothes for them. Just goes to show there are angels amoung us. God knows what we need even before we do.He always makes a way so that when one door closes another opens. I am very very happy for you!

Hi oceanlady I just seen those wonderful pictures of the late holly beach they brought back lots of fun fun weekends at the local bars. I would like to get in touch with kathy and Gerome if you know how to please let me know I have been thinking of them and just don't know whereto look. hope you keep the soirit we are going home soon.
We had the same problem with FEMA. Our home at Holly Beach was not our primary residence. Since we did not lose our employment or our vehicle, we did not qualify for just losing our entire home and contents with no hurricane insurance at Holly Beach. We applied for a loan with SBA hoping for the 2% loan to rebuild but have had no response from them. We told them we weren't asking for a handout, just help us out since we already have one mortgage to pay for.
We went down to our camp Nov. 20 and had no problem getting through the road block. In fact the police were showing grief for us. Two police from Vernon Parish even took a picture of us. We plan to rebuild and hope the officials remember that even the newest built houses on pilings are gone. Holly Beach was unique because it wasn't taken over by high rises and huge houses. Our people were simple, happy and fun loving in their mostly small unique houses. Please don't take that away!
