My mother in law works at the food stamp office in Sabine Parish and she said the got a memo that said the lower parish which include Calcasieu and Jeff Davis has been extended to Oct 31. There were other parishes but I don't remember them all sorry. I know it was also Vermillion, Iberia, Beauragard. Hope this helps.

FYI....Just got some good news this morning. They are going to reload all food stamps cards on Nov. 3rd So dod not throw away those cards. This should be done automatic by Nov. 4th. What a good break. The first one will replace my freezer stuff lost and the second one will get us back on track for the month.

I've heard conflicting information on the food stamps--is it based on income? Where would you go to apply (I'm in Carlyss)?

Thanks to all who have posted such valuable information on this forum over the past few weeks.

There should be places around Lake Charles to apply. I think at one of the centers with the red cross and fema the DRC Centers. I do not that the income is considered but at the time of our applications ww were unemployed so we got them, but I think now if you are employed you may not get them. I will ask someone and get back to you.

Ok This is what I found out. On Novemebr 3rd all cards will be reloaded if you live in the disater area. Does not matter if you have a balance on the card or not. All balances will roll over to next month. You have 90 days from the first date to use all the balance. Everything expires on the 91 day. Also you go and apply now and they do take your income in consideration. You disater expenses need to be atleast one dollar more than your income to quaifly for the max amount based on your family size.

I also found this from the Lafayette,La TV-10 KLFY website:

Residents of some Acadiana parishes still waiting for help are also getting a reprieve.

The state Department of Social Services has been granted federal approval to extend the disaster food stamp program in eleven parishes around the state.

Here in Acadiana, residents of Jeff Davis, Acadia and Vermilion parishes now have until October 31st to apply for the emergency food stamp benefits.

To SulphurMaggie:
The place to sign up for food stamps, as I understand it, is at the old Trinity Baptist Church on Ryan. It's between South Ryan and Sallier, on the corner of Ryan and East Street. I'm not sure of the times. When I went, they opened at 7. I hope that helps!
